SOBA Carolinas has answered the call of duty towards the Scholarship Endowment Fund and raised $2,400. Chapter president, Dr. Bertrand Fote, on December 28th, 2016, made a deposit of $2,300 into the Sasse Alumni Association account towards the fund. $100 had been previously deposited as the donor had written the check in Sasse Alumni Association’s name.

As the Carolinas chapter prepared to host the mini-convention, Dr. Fote challenged his chapter to lead by example and support the Scholarship Endowment Fund project which he chairs. The chapter unanimously agreed to take on the challenge. The chapter graciously allocated time during the mini-convention gala to hold a fundraiser for the cause. As you know, mini-conventions are typically a forum for chapters to boost their chapter finances. Even though the Carolinas is a new chapter and certainly in need of financial resources, the chapter put aside its needs to seek to make a difference in the lives of many kids who will benefit from the SOBA America Scholarship fund.

SOBA America President – Frederick Itoe, in a phone call to congratulate Carolinas chapter on this remarkable feat, had this to say: “I am proud of what SOBA Carolinas has achieved. This is an example that other chapters should follow. I challenge other chapters to raise funds and support the scholarship endowment fund.” He also praised Carolinas  chapter for a remarkable mini-convention.

The scholarship endowment fund is the Itoe administration’s signature initiative. The goal is to raise $250,000 and establish an endowment fund that will provide over 50 scholarships annually to students of St. Joseph’s College, Sasse based on need and merit. This year, the first annual SOBA America Day was held at the school campus and fifty (50) students were blessed with scholarships. Congratulations to the Carolinas Chapter. May St Joseph continue to guide us!
